CHARLIE JONES
"I am inspired to paint the
identity of humanity in a critical time." - Charlie Jones
For the past several years, Charlie Jones has been compelled to paint about the migrant crisis around the world and humanity’s connection with the environment. He is inspired to explore the identity of humanity in these critical times. As a father of a half-Colombian boy, and coming from a mixed heritage background himself, Charlie feels a deep calling as an artist to discover, through painting, the true essence of human identity and freedom.
Charlie’s artistic journey began at the age of nine, inspired by the great painters—Rembrandt, Turner, and later the French Impressionists. He spent countless hours sitting in galleries such as the Wallace Collection, staring at masterpieces and absorbing the sensitivity and technique of the artists. His mother, a talented artist and designer herself, introduced him early on to many drawing methods, nurturing his creative instincts. As a youngster, he painted for hours, developing an expressive impasto style at an early age.
He continues to paint today, inspired by the thriving contemporary painting scene happening across the globe. It is, in his view, an exciting time to be a painter.
In addition to painting, Charlie dedicates time to other creative pursuits and has developed several meaningful artistic enterprises over the years, including working with refugee groups and arts initiatives in London.
